Custom Transportation

JHU Transportation Services offers chartered shuttles and buses for JHU departments, organizations, and student groups seeking transportation for events and meetings.  We have a variety of vehicles available to fit your needs.  All shuttles and buses are provided with a driver, and are available for trips within approximately 50 miles of the Baltimore Metropolitan area.
Available Vehicles:

  • Blue Jay Shuttles
    • accommodate up to 14
    • $60 per hour
  • Shuttle-Style Buses
    • accommodate up to 25; shuttles for up to 29 or 35 by request, if available
    • $108 per hour
  • JHU Transit Buses
    • accommodate up to 40 seated
    • can accommodate up to 70 including standing passengers (short trips only)
    • $140 per hour
  • School Buses, Motorcoaches, and other bus types are available as outside, subcontracted services (see below).

Additional Information
Billed time begins 30 minutes prior to your initial pickup, to allow for preparation and travel from the yard to the pickup point.  Billed time ends 30 minutes after the final dropoff, to allow time for the bus to return to the yard, and be cleaned, refueled, and inspected.  Additional travel time may be included if the initial pickup or final dropoff are not located at the Homewood Campus.  A two-hour minimum applies to each trip, anytime the bus departs the yard.  Long events requiring only a one-way dropoff at the outset and a one-way return at the end MAY be considered as a separate “split-shift” if there is sufficient time in between; however, the two-hour minimum applies to each portion.
All pricing includes fees for vehicle, driver, and fuel.  Added fees may apply for especially long trips requiring a driver shift-change, or for large events requiring on-site coordination.  Money for any applicable tolls, parking fees (if you require the bus to park and remain on-site with your group), park entry fees, and/or other incurred costs must be furnished on-site by a representative of your group.
All shuttles and buses are subject to limited availability, and are not “held” until confirmed.  In the event a shuttle or bus of a suitable size and type is not available when sought, JHU Transportation Services may offer to subcontract your trip through an outside provider, with all agreements and payments handled between your group and Transportation Services.  Pricing will be based on quotes furnished by the outside providers.  Allow 2-3 additional business days for options to be researched and a suitable proposal to be presented.
An added fee ($60 for Blue Jay Shuttle trips, $100 for other trips) may be incurred for any itineraries finalized or modified less than one week before they occur.  Once confirmed, cancellation must be made no later than 48 hours in advance to be fully released from financial obligation for a JHU-provided shuttle or bus, and no later than one week prior to the trip for a subcontracted service.  Partial refunds MAY be available within those timeframes.  Day-of-service cancellations may not be refunded.  If the trip runs longer than agreed, the rush fee described above will be incurred in addition to the applicable added hourly fees.

In the event of a weather-related closure of the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus, it should be presumed that all Charter operations arranged by Transportation Services shall be cancelled.  No fees will apply and Transportation Services will make every effort to reschedule trips without penalty, subject to availability.  Exceptions to this policy should be discussed in advance with the Transportation Manager and are subject to approval by officials within Johns Hopkins Facilities & Real Estate.
